WHO WE ARE
We create impactful outdoor experiences through ecology, art, and innovation.
Earthknower Studio is a collaborative landscape architecture firm in Santa Barbara, California founded by Robert F. Adams, ASLA. We have over twenty years of experience designing exteriors for homes, ranches and estates, public benefit projects, and commercial developments, as well as revitalized urban centers and historic properties. Maintaining the integrity of historical and cultural values informs our design work. Ecological efforts such as utilizing low-water-use plants, seasonal interest, and the composition of textures and colors of landscape materials are paramount.

Our Inspiration
Our ethos
The name, “Earthknower,” was established by inspiration found within a significant landscape painting by Western Landscape Artist Maynard Dixon. We embrace the name to celebrate art and landscape, commemorating our inspiration for our practice.
At Earthknower Studio, we work with native plants and utilize water conservation as much as possible. We pay close attention to animal, bird, and butterfly habitat enhancements, as well as types of plants (color, trees, shrubs). In all of our residential and commercial work, we utilize passive recreation, shade, and design approaches that enhance a space or solve a particular problem. Our ecological landscape design process adds natural and healthful benefits while addressing the environmental challenges of climate, fire danger, scarce water resources, adaptability, sustainability, and artistic aesthetics.
